A trench rat, unwillingly promoted to alert signal in case of mustard gas attacks, recounts his daily life during World War I. The point of view is original, critical and humoristic, not without compassion for the French soldier, who like a rat in a cage, is trapped in the monstrous absurdity of the conflict.
